Xakanaxa (pronounced Ka-Kan-A-Ka) is located 50kms to the west of the Khwai Gate in the northern sector of the Moremi Game Reserve, which is rated as being one of the finest game viewing areas in Africa, and one of the few Okavango lodges which can offer comprehensive year-round boating and mokoro trips as well as nature drives.
To the north and west of the camp are the permanent lagoons and waterways of the Okavango and to the south and the east are the dry woodlands. This Botswana camp is also located on the permanent flowing Khwai River and overlooks the beautiful Xakanaxa Lagoon.
Guests are accommodated in 12 spacious and tastefully furnished tents with twin or double beds and en-suite shower, hand basin and toilet facilities. Each tented suite, situated on the fringes of the lagoon, has a private viewing deck with comfortable loungers. Xakanaxa Camp can accommodate a number of 24 guests.
Xakanaxa boasts a thatched roof covered lounge and bar area. The game viewing decks offer spectacular views of the Botswana bush. Evenings can be enjoyed around the camp fire on a deck elevated over the river. After a hot safari day guests can relax and cool down in Xakanaxa's plunge pool.
The open fronted dining room is also raised on a wooden platform, situated at the edge of the Xakanaxa Lagoon. Its thatch roof and reed walls echo the atmosphere of rustic comfort. This is further reinforced by the myriad lamps and candles, which illuminate the camp at night.
To the south and east, the reserve offers sanctuary to the most varied herds in southern Africa. To the north and west of the lodge are the permanent lagoons and waterways of the Okavango Delta which can be explored by powerboat or traditional dugout canoe (mokoro).
